Also... "Correction without discipline is only advice to a child." so when it comes to the teens No one sees "elders"/the pastoral staff correcting them and so the rest of our congregation just follows the leader. I have tried but it always seems like I'm overstepping a boundary where I believe it's our place to teach them right from wrong along with how to have a relationship with God since they don't know either . I believe both are equally important. Again.... Just saying.
Sorry if this offended anyone. Love ya!!!!! :-\
And as far add the teens GI on Wednesdays, jess and I used to help put with the youth group before we started teaching on Wednesdays, not all the time, but mostly in their Tuesday night live events and Friday night lock-ins... And I will say that MOST of the kids there, had no respect for or discipline, because they were never shown it. Once they understood that we weren't trying to "be the bad guy," they understood why we were correcting them. One thing that I have learned from those events, the easiest way to get their attention, just getting up and moving too sit with them while they are being loud. Easiest way to get them to see you are watching them. Sometimes, like during worship, letting them talk a whisper ( so they aren't disturbing) helps too. Sometimes it takes a little bit for them to want to sung during that time... But by allowing them a little bit, they will begin to follow. Does that make sense? Just a thought.
Each generation within the church coming together despite differences and using each others strengths and giftings is going to make or break the church as a whole (not a single church but the WHOLE church) in my opinion. My concern with small groups is exactly what Adam said.
